Year 12 Taster Days

To be held on 23 Feb, 7 March and 14 March 2012.

Eligibility Criteria

The Music Taster Days are designed for students from the maintained sector who are academically at the top of their cohort. This means that we expect all participants to have achieved five A/A* grades in their GCSEs. Please note that the event will involve a high level of academic challenge and sessions will be delivered in a lecture or seminar format.

Application Process

We are able to take applications for school and college groups up to a maximum size of fifteen students. In the majority of cases we expect to received applications from a teacher on behalf of a group but individual applications are acceptable providing parental consent is given.

The basic timetable for each day is as described above but the lecture and practical sessions on offer vary depending on which date you attend. Please see the option choices for each date and indicate your preferences on your application form. While every effort will be made to offer your first choice session this may not always be possible. As a result please indicate your session choices in order of preference (e.g. 1, 3, 2).

Applications for Feb 23rd should be received by Feb 12th, for March dates applications should be received by Feb 26th. All applications should be emailed to outreach@mus.cam.ac.uk or posted to Outreach, 11 West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9DP. Applicants will receive notification of their place no later than 10 days before the event.

If the events are oversubscribed priority will be given as follows:

  • Schools with below national average point scores and below national average progression to HE rates.
  • Schools with below average HE progression rates but above average point scores.
  • Schools with below average point scores but above average HE progression rates.

Within these categories, priority will be given to schools and colleges that have the lowest progression rates and average point scores.
